Dr. McCurdy is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine. He received an MD from UC San Diego and MPH from UC Berkeley. Dr. McCurdy is a leading expert in conditions that influence the health and safety of migrant Hispanic farm workers, has directed the UC Davis Occupational and Environmental Medicine Clinic. As a UC Davis Wellness lecturer, he has promoted free tuberculosis skin testing and other disease management and prevention services for agricultural workers. He also advocates additional training in environmental and occupational medicine for primary care physicians and medical students. McCurdy helped establish the Center for Agricultural Research, Education and Disease and Injury Prevention through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. His research focuses on job-related hazards such as pesticide poisoning; skin disease and respiratory illnesses in seasonal agricultural workers; and muscle strain injuries. He has written several textbook chapters on job-related health risks, and studied illness and injury in the semiconductor industry.
