Born and raised in Los Angeles, Peter grew up exploring and enjoying the beauty of the San Gabriel Mountains and the high desert. This instilled a love and appreciation for the natural world that inspired Peter to study Geology in college. In graduate school his research focused on near-surface geophysical explorations, remote sensing, and GIS spatial analysis of desert fault systems and their impact on the hydrology of desert springs.
Professionally, Peter has worked across both the public and private sectors, including positions in environmental and geotechnical consulting as well as with various county governments. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide range of data types — everything from land-use statistics and census demographics to drone (sUAS) imagery, terrestrial LiDAR, and geologic and soil sampling datasets. He has been involved in projects that have addressed wildfire recovery efforts, citizen vulnerability indexing, landslide susceptibility modeling, corridor hazard analysis, and environmental remediation planning.
Peter specializes in spatial data analysis, automation, and the development of custom web-based GIS tools designed to make complex data accessible to non-technical stakeholders. He believes that in well-structured geospatial information has the power to support smarter, more responsive decision-making in both environmental and public health contexts.
Motivated by a desire to apply his skills for the public good, Peter joined UC Davis Health. He is excited to support the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health’s mission of developing new knowledge and bringing UC’s resources to people affected by health hazards in their workplace and communities.
Outside the office, Peter enjoys a good adventure and can often be found hiking, backpacking, and camping across North America with his wife Rachel.
