Service: Protecting the Public

We bring the resources of the University of California to people affected by health hazards in their workplaces or communities, and administer state grants that help the California Department of Public Health keep us safe.

A Word From COEH Director Peter James, Phd

As the Director UC Davis Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, I’m proud to lead a team dedicated to understanding how the environments where we live, work, and play shape our health. From wildfire smoke and workplace exposures to urban design and green space access, our research spans the full spectrum of environmental and occupational risks. We’re committed to translating science into solutions—informing policies, improving protections, and training the next generation of public health leaders. At COEH, we believe that healthier environments mean healthier lives, and we’re working every day to make that a reality for all Californians.
